Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Start R.I.G.H.T. Challenge?

Start R.I.G.H.T. originated from the Fit Fresh & Fun Initiative beginning in 2011, that aims to foster healthier communities and make Riverside more aware of healthy opportunities within the city.

In the past, The Challenge has been a 3-month fit-filled journey, however, it will now be condensed to 6-weeks. This in turn will encourage participation throughout the entire process. The ultimate goal of the Start R.I.G.H.T. Challenge is for participants to adopt healthy behaviors such as: increase consumption of fruits and vegetables, decrease consumption of saturated fats and sugar, to meet 150 minutes of physical activity per week (minimum) and to improve overall health.

When does the Challenge start?

The Challenge will start January 20th. Our 6-week challenge will kick off with a color run at The Grove Community Church. Registration is online only.

What are the prizes?

  • $100 Participant with the Most Fruit and Vegetable Intake
  • $100 Participant with the Greatest Decrease in Saturated Fat Consumption
  • $100 Participant with the Greatest Overall Health Improvement
  • $100 for the Most Physically Active Participant
  • $200 for the Most Physically Active Family

I missed the deadline to weigh-in. Can I still be part of the Challenge?

Yes, of course! You can sign-up for the 6-Week Challenge via the 6 Week Challenge. Please call (951) 788-3471 for any questions.

What is included with my registration?
Each registered participant will receive a custom race t-shirt, color packet a goody bag and activity guide filled with fun activities throughout the 3 month challenge.

Can children participate?

Absolutely!!! If they want to, they can run, walk, jog next to you. If they’re not feeing it or are too small, strollers and carriers are acceptable and very much welcomed!

Can I run with my pet?
For the safety of our runners and animals, we do not allow animals at any of our races. If someone does bring a pet (that is not a certified service animal) we will kindly ask that they take their pet home.

How do I get my participant kit?
Upon arrival, you will be directed to the check-in area. When you check-in, you will receive a wristband. After you get your wristband, you will get weighed-in (not applicable for youth). Once you have weighed-in, you will receive your t-shirt and get in line for the Color Run. After you cross the finish line, you will be given your goody bag and color packet.

How is the color administered along the course?
You will see smiling faces along the course whose main goal is to douse you in colorful powder to ensure that you look like you ran through a beautiful rainbow by the time you cross the finish line.

Is the Color safe?
Safety is our main priority! Our colors are made with high quality cornstarch and food dyes.  All materials are 100% FD&C and/or D&C grade and approved by the US FDA. However our product is not designed for consumption.  If you would like a copy of the Safety Data Sheets please contact us at (888)-252-6567 or email us at info@colorblaze.com.

Is it harmful if you inhale it?

Although all the materials are food grade we do not recommend inhaling large quantities of color powder.  Anyone who has asthma, is allergic to any of the ingredients or has any respiratory issues should exercise caution when participating in color powder events.  It should also always be used in well ventilated outdoor space.

How does the post-race color pit work?
At the finish line you will receive your goody bag and color packet. Just a few steps away will be the color pit where you and all your fellow runners will get to douse each other (or yourself) in color J We provide one bag of color for each runner.

Will the color ruin clothes or running shoes?
Our color powder washes out of most clothing.  However, it can stain some materials.  100% cotton clothing is recommended and typical machine washing with stain remover, removes the stains.  We recommend removing excess powder from clothing before washing and/or applying water.

Do you have “cleaning stations” at the finish after party?
We have air blown color cleaning at the finish line. With a good dusting off, you aren’t 100% clean, but you are good for the drive home. We will also have some hand wash stations.

What about the drive home?
We recommend bringing some towels for the insides of your cars and/or a change of clothes and shoes just in case.

Do the “Color Zones” affect runner vision? Or breathing?
The color powder used is all certified non-toxic and free of any heavy metals.  The bright colors are a combination of cornstarch, baking soda, and FD&C dyes. As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our color throwers try to aim low as you pass by.  Some Color Runners opt to wear glasses for their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths.

Can spectators attend?
Absolutely.  They just won’t receive a wrist band and will not be able to run in the race.

Are cameras and phones safe to have in the color zones?
Our race photographers are generally fine shooting from a medium distance of 50 feet, but to be totally safe we always recommend covering cameras/phones with a protective dust wrap.  Those colorful powder particles are sneaky and the Riverside Community Health Foundation is not liable for any damage that might be done to your camera!

Is The Color Run timed?
Our color run is not a timed event. Runners tend to take their time out there and enjoy themselves. We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.

What if I am pregnant?
It’s totally up to what you and your doctor decide.  We see a lot of pregnant runners at our races and they are the cutest ones out there!  The powder is all certified non-toxic.  We recommend wearing sunglasses or goggles, and a bandana over your mouth and nose in the color zones just for extra protection.

What happens if there is bad weather?
A little rain won’t stop us. It even makes the color brighter!
